Tidlig livsstress, såsom barndomstraumer, kan have alvorlige negative konsekvenser for udvikling. Denne type stress er knyttet til problemer med både psykisk og fysisk sundhed senere i livet. Studiet understøtter vigtigheden af at forstå og håndtere tidlig stress for bedre sundhedsmæssige resultater.

Early Life Stress and Development: Potential Mechanisms for Adverse Outcomes.

Hele abstrakt på originalsprog:
Early life stress, a crucible of chronic or extreme adversity in a child’s nascent years, casts long shadows across development, etching its mark on the brain’s delicate circuits. A sweeping review of existing research reveals that this trauma disrupts the prefrontal-hypothalamic-amygdala and dopaminergic pathways, with the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis acting as a key mediator—its altered rhythms rippling outward to shape neural fate. These changes, persistent and pervasive, steer psychological and behavioral trajectories, often toward vulnerability for psychopathology and health disorders. Yet, the precise mechanisms remain elusive, clouded by a focus on mere event exposure in past studies. Integrating how children perceive and interpret these stressors, alongside the events themselves, could illuminate the roots of individual differences in neurodevelopmental outcomes. Such insight promises to unravel the intricate threads linking early stress to its enduring echoes, sharpening our grasp of risk and resilience in the tender crucible of youth.
